Dr Karen van der Spuy

Dr K van der Spuy joined Cape Anaesthetics as a full-time associate in January 2022.
Before studying medicine, Dr van der Spuy completed a BSc Physiotherapy Honours degree at the University of the Western Cape (2002). She then went on to study medicine at UCT and was awarded her MBCHB degree in 2009.
She commenced her career in anaesthesia as a Medical Officer at Tygerberg Hospital before moving to Groote Schuur Hospital where she completed her specialist training, obtaining her FCA through the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa and MMED degree through UCT. She then spent two years as a Specialist Anaesthetist in the Department of Anaesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at Groote Schuur Hospital before moving into private health care.
She is registered with the HPCSA, and is also a member of the South African Society of Anaesthetists.
