Dr Ian Seggie

Dr Seggie studied at Wits University and specialised in Anaesthesiology at the Johannesburg General Hospital. He received his Fellowship in Anaesthetics in 1996. He went to the United Kingdom for 3 years as a Consultant at the St Andrews Hospital for Burns, Plastic And Reconstructive Surgery in Chelmsford. He was the lead Consultant in Acute pain management as well as joint lead Consultant in Paediatric Anaesthesia. He was the College Tutor to the trainee Anaesthetists. He was involved in anaesthetic and intensive care management of severely burned adults and children, as well as the management of paediatric facial abnormalities (eg cleft lip and palate), and adult head and neck surgery and reconstruction.

He returned to South Africa and worked in Private Practice in East London before joining Cape Anaesthetics at the end of 2000. He has been a part of the South African Society of Anaesthesiologists (SASA) Private Practice Unit Committee (PPBU) since 2018 and part of the leadership of the PPBU since 2020. He is married to Jane and they have 3 children.
