Our Anaesthetic Services

Are you scheduled for a medical or surgical procedure? Understanding the various types of anaesthesia can help ease your mind and prepare you for what’s ahead. Click here to read our comprehensive guide on anaesthesia options, tailored to your needs and ensuring your comfort and safety.

General Anaesthesia

General anaesthesia is a medically induced state of unconsciousness where patients are unable to feel pain during surgery. It involves the use of drugs to achieve muscle relaxation, loss of sensation, and amnesia. This allows surgeons to perform procedures without causing discomfort or distress to the patient.

Spinal Anaesthesia

Spinal anaesthesia for a caesarean section involves injecting a local anaesthetic into the spinal fluid in your lower back, which blocks sensation and movement from the waist down. This allows you to remain awake and aware during the birth of your baby while ensuring you feel no pain. It is preferred for C-sections due to its rapid pain relief and safety for both mother and baby.

Procedural Sedation

Find out more about procedural sedation, including its benefits, risks, and preparation guidelines. Learn how sedation can help you feel relaxed and comfortable during medical procedures.

Epidural Anaesthesia

Epidural anaesthesia is a type of regional anaesthesia that blocks pain in a specific area of the body by injecting anaesthetic medication into the epidural space of the spine. It is commonly used for pain relief during labour and childbirth, as well as for certain surgical procedures and chronic pain management. The procedure involves inserting a needle and catheter into the lower back to deliver the medication.

Brachial Plexus Block

A brachial plexus block is a type of regional anaesthesia where a local anaesthetic is injected near the brachial plexus—a network of nerves that controls sensation and movement in the shoulder, arm, and hand. This procedure temporarily blocks nerve signals to provide pain relief or anaesthesia for surgical or medical procedures involving the upper limb.
